The public relations office of Pakistan’s Anti-Narcotics Force announced Tuesday that Brigadier General Iraj Kakavand, head of Iran’s Anti-Narcotics Police, met with Major General Abdul Moeed, the ANF commander, during a visit to the force’s headquarters.
Senior delegations from Iran and Pakistan discussed mutual concerns and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation in counter-narcotics coopeartion.
The two sides agreed to improve intelligence sharing in order to disrupt drug trafficking networks. Both countries also agreed on carrying out joint operations against cross-border smuggling, while addressing shared border challenges to stem the flow of narcotics along the two countries' borders.
The Iranian delegation is also scheduled to visit Pakistan’s Ministry of Interior and Narcotics Control, the Anti-Narcotics Force Academy in Islamabad, as well as an addiction treatment and rehabilitation center and a port control unit in Karachi, to have a closer look at Pakistan’s professional training, prevention programs and rehabilitation initiatives.
Kakavand praised the ANF for its sustained efforts to contain the drug challenge, while both sides emphasized their commitment to building a safe, drug-free region through stronger coordination, particularly along the border.
